Politeness pi: marking courtesy
The Slot 0 particle pi marks an entire utterance as polite or considerate. When it combines with another sentence frame, it comes first:
pi no lumani naphe.

pi wa thia po naphe.

What pi does
English often puts a request inside a question about ability or a report about what the speaker was wondering. Phi can do less circling. pi no lumani naphe is openly a directive, and pi marks the speaker's courteous stance towards it.
Courtesy does not change the clause's force. pi no remains a directive, while pi wa remains a question. Authority, safe refusal, and consent are separate facts. The grammar exposes the courtesy and the sentence type; the relationship supplies the rest.
Ordering
The documented combinations are pi no ... for a polite directive and pi wa ... for a polite yes-or-no question. An ordinary polite statement may begin with pi alone. In every case, the courtesy marker stands at the outer edge of the sentence.
When pi matters most
A speaker may choose pi when asking for effort, interrupting, disagreeing, or entering another person's attention. The syllable can make consideration audible, but a gentle voice can still carry pressure. A considerate request also leaves practical room for the answer to be no.
There is no requirement to put pi on every sentence. An unmarked assertion or question may be entirely courteous, and repeated pi may become an ordinary habit within a relationship. The particle records a choice in the utterance, not the speaker's character.
