Domain modules

Ecological Systems and Material Life

Dye runs from a workshop into a stream, and a fish downstream carries it in its blood. Naming that chain needs more than one word: what entered the water, how much, who was exposed, and what evidence supports the claim of harm. The chapter's ecological roots carry it link by link.

Like every module, the specialized words are optional and use ordinary Phi grammar. A speaker who has not learned them can always ask for a core paraphrase. Learning them does not make anyone a scientist, a landholder, or an authority on what should be done.

The chapter table below introduces 30 module roots. Current classifications bring the optional learning list to 55 words; base weather, material, and resource are taught alongside it. The JSON entries in vocabulary/content/ remain authoritative for each word's form and full definition.

The module does not replace what Phi already says about land, water, weather, and living things. It adds narrower ecological relations around these familiar resources.

Systems lends its own vocabulary for the mechanics underneath: terura system, mirela state, pherami dependency, koewi input, thirulo output, sekaru transfer, turelo feedback, henora capacity, pemaru hazard, kisholu specification. Borrowing a technical word does not by itself hand over an ecological conclusion.

Weather, material, and resources belong to base vocabulary

None of these three entries has a modules field. Weather decides whether a trip leaves now. A broken chair still has material in it, and stored water may be a resource for a garden. The ecological module sharpens the consequences without owning the ordinary words.

The verbs in this table receive their event or result nouns through Phi's ordinary event-noun rule: wheraku can name erosion, phaluwe a flood, pesenu pollution, perawi exposure, morume decomposition, tukelu recycling, and somethi monitoring. The adjective pekira likewise names toxicity through the quality-noun rule; its entry remains adjective-only as required by the lexicon schema.

Temperature, humidity, and illumination

Hot weather, damp air, and a bright clearing are ordinary experiences, and Phi already describes them. Monitoring asks a different question. It needs to identify the condition that may vary before any speaker decides that the present temperature is hot, the humidity uncomfortable, or the illumination sufficient.

sumeri names temperature as that neutral thermal condition. wimura selects water vapour in air, while wirua remains available for wet matter or air that feels damp. keruma follows light received at a place or surface; keru brightness, pholuo luminosity, and horae radiance describe neighbouring visible qualities.

The three nouns tell a listener what is being followed. A source record still carries the exact measurement and how it was taken. Its scale, unit, instrument, and time stay together. A number may sit very neatly in its column and remain quite unable to explain what the habitat needs.

Ecosystems and ecological boundaries

litero borrows systems thinking for ecological ground: selected living beings and the nonliving conditions around them, bounded by a place, a time, and a scale the speaker names. litero norui marks that boundary directly, and naming it is an act of analysis, not a claim that the boundary exists on its own in nature.

One forest can hold several useful ecosystem boundaries at once, drawn for different questions, and a pattern that looks balanced proves nothing about whether the system is actually closed.

Habitat, species, population, and community

menuro joins a place to the conditions a particular organism needs there, and the same grove can be habitat in one season and not the next. Watching an animal at a place says nothing yet about whether the place supplies its food, its shelter, or its way to raise young.

likori opens species-level talk while leaving the exact taxonomic boundary to whatever source draws it. liloni narrows further to one place and time: a species can carry several populations, and one population can shift without the species definition moving at all.

liweso keeps the human-scale sila from quietly becoming a scientific category. An ecological community can include feeding, disease, competition, and mutual support, and plenty of its organisms never meet at all.

philima always names its scope, because richness, abundance, genetic variation, and ecological function measure different things and rarely move together. A claim that biodiversity is rich or declining is only as good as the place, time, and measure it names, and more diversity is not automatically better under every condition.

Watersheds, runoff, erosion, and sediment

luphano follows drainage, not ownership: the slopes, channels, and surfaces that feed one outlet, whatever line a map might draw across them.

wiralu is water crossing a surface, carrying sediment, nutrients, warmth, or nothing worth noting, and its presence alone proves neither pollution nor its source.

wheraku is the detaching and the carrying; munari is the particulate matter that results. One can be observed at a site without the other showing up there at the same moment.

Groundwater stays the transparent muila phialu (earth-water), its depth and movement stated separately, and water entering soil stays the plain clause phialu muo muila koema, which claims only entry, nothing about recharge or where the water ends up.

Weather, climate, floods, and droughts

howenu is the sky right now; meluri is the long pattern that today's sky belongs to, over a stated region and period. One day's weather can offer a data point toward a climate claim, but never the claim itself.

phaluwe and kuramo name water past its usual bounds and water withheld too long, each measured against what a place normally expects. Neither word decides whether the event counts as a disaster, or who is responsible for it.

A heatwave stays the transparent sharoi sukaro mosha, a period of excessive heat, with its place, duration, and threshold available to state in the sentence rather than folded into one word.

Contamination, pollution, toxicity, and exposure

hisophi classifies an agent against an expected condition, and the agent it names may turn out harmless. pesenu is the stronger claim: that the agent actually causes environmental impairment, under evidence and criteria the speaker should be ready to name.

pekira is a capacity for harm under a stated exposure; perawi is the simpler fact of contact. A toxic agent may be present without any organism being exposed, and exposure alone determines neither dose nor effect.

nomiki is always a ratio against a named medium, and it answers a narrower question than total amount, system load, or toxicity, each of which needs its own word.

The exact value is preserved without being made to interpret itself. A claim of harm also needs an applicable threshold, a sampling method, the exposed organism and route, and a clear account of uncertainty.

Material, resource, and waste

muralo is matter simply under discussion. panuri and whemori describe its relation to a purpose, not what the material is in itself: the same fallen branch can be habitat in a grove, waste to one maintenance crew, and a resource to another.

Calling something a resource grants no ownership or access by itself. Calling it waste grants no permission to discard it carelessly, especially where its hazards or its place in another habitat are still real.

Decomposition, nutrients, and recycling

morume is the breakdown itself, biological or chemical; lurepa names a material by the biological function it serves. Decomposition can release nutrients, bind them, or carry them elsewhere, and the two words track different things even when they meet in the same pile of leaves.

tukelu requires real processing, discarded material actually remade into another input. Simple reuse, repair, and decomposition are other afterlives a material can have; none of them is recycling.

Recycling itself can cost energy and new material, and it can produce contamination or lower-quality output along the way. The word names a process, and a process is not automatically a sustainable one.

phisuri is a selected portion or observation, and how well it stands for something larger depends entirely on how it was selected, not on how precisely it was measured.

mothami is a reference chosen for comparison, historical, modeled, or administratively set, and it need not be the healthiest or most natural state a place has ever held.

herani names a pattern already seen across ordered observations, without supplying its cause or promising it continues. reteru is a representation built for a purpose, and it stays a representation, never the ecosystem or future it stands in for.

A model's exact name, version, and equations belong to the source record; Phi can discuss what a model includes, what it leaves out, and what it forecasts without pretending to carry its technical identity itself.

Monitoring and revision

somethi is repeated observation tied to a stated purpose across time. An assessable monitoring plan names what it watches, where the observations occur, their recurrence and duration, and the baseline used for comparison.

Watching does not prove cause, and it does not prove that protection is working. It authorizes no surveillance of people, and a community can act under real uncertainty while still saying plainly how the action will be watched, questioned, and changed.

Useful transparent compositions

Some ecological expressions remain clearer as combinations because their parts expose the intended analysis.

Infiltration and absorption can meet without becoming the same event. phialu muo muila koema follows water crossing into earth; muila phialu wosanu makes the earth the receiving subject and says that the water remains within it.

Source ecological information

Scientific identities, exact technical artifacts, and institutional categories stay outside the Phi passage. Species and taxonomic names retain their identities. Technical artifacts keep their formulas and recorded values; identifiers, dates, model versions, and equations remain with the same source. Standards and legal categories preserve their institutional form. The module supplies the relations around this material; it does not translate the artifact itself.

An ecological concept may already have a direct word; it may instead be clearer as visible composition or deserve a root admitted through protocol. Helping someone pronounce a foreign name does not turn that aid into ecological vocabulary.

Within Phi, the ecosystem and boundary can be identified along with what moved or changed, who observed it, which model or inference is doing the work, and what remains uncertain.

Exact preservation keeps a concept's origin and contested history available. Classification accuracy, sample representativeness, and threshold applicability remain separate questions.
