Translation and commitment

A source, a translation, and an analysis are three different artifacts. Preserve the source separately, label the Phi translation as a translation, and state when an analysis adds interpretation or criticism.

Source statement outside Phi: The device is safe.

Possible Phi translation:

This translation commits the writer to a Phi safety claim; it does not prove the source was correct, the device was inspected, the term safe had the same scope, or affected people consented to its use. Labeling keeps the seam visible: a reader who cannot check the source at least knows where trust is being asked for. Translation is an accountable act rather than invisible carriage.
